I never felt the need to change the gearing in the 1260, it was a huge improvement when I did it on my original 1200 (pre DVT)
Yes, this is required after a gearing change.
...'around town' speeds. Maybe placebo effect/conformation bias... This, a throttle spacer and 14/40, or 15/42, gearing combined refines the bike...
Thanks bumpkin armrest the instructions to do it in the manual cheers and is it straight forward to do thank you
...this something you ‘need’ to do especially if you don’t change the gearing? I’m having new tyres fitted but I’m not really sure why I need it,...
The lack of low down power may be negated by the gearing
Useful point ref gearing, I've updated my post :upyeah:
Thanks I think it’s the first comment I’ve read on different forums that didnt agree with it on the 1260 so thanks food for thought anyone else...
...calibration after fitting new tyres but not after changing the gearing and a tyre calibration will have no affect upon the functioning of the DQS.
That’s useful and interesting to know, thanks.

Either go 14T front & 40T rear or 15T front & 42T rear. There are those who think keeping 15 front gives the chain an easier life.
...range? It has to get to 9000rpm before it matches and betters the PP. That’s a long way up the Rev counter and a lot of gearing change to make up.
Understood! Thank you!
I will be re calibrating mine also after the 14t it can’t do any harm at all
...say that I did it making the assumption (possibly harking back to gearing changes on my VFR that had speedo sensor on gearbox output shaft...),...
...since I picked the bike up. I do notice that motorway running on the 1260 is very efficient, even with the change in gearing (+1 front sprocket).
IDK. It's just a suggestion as the OP significantly changed the gearing. Can't hurt to try.
Thanks bumpkin I will go for the 14t front then cheers
