There should be a moulded-in material stamp/marking (mainly for recycling info) somewhere on it so that may help when selecting paint compatibility.

Try a 'firmer' shift - i.e. hoof it a bit harder! That 5-6 neutral is a common feature if the shift isn't firm enough.
