Rear shock makes a big difference I found
Standard ones are made of chocolate that's probably why your dealers suggesting new ones
Could be I came off on the service and the tech couldn't find it so he popped a new one on?
M8 ones are used to bolt the rear seat unit to the subframe, check the big Allen key bolts under the pillion seat

I run without one the systems inconel and doesn't with hold heat like titanium or steel Miss my seat heater in the winter though
