Just found my original owners manual that came with the bike. It says 39f-43r!
So from Ducati up North the standard setup on a 749s is 14f-39r, and the recommended is 14f-43r with the consequence of a 8mm shorter wheelbase.
Nelson mentioned that the peak appeared to be ~3.5A on start up, but <1A on tickover. I wonder if the 3.5 he saw was only a momentary peak value...
