Awesome, and brilliant........ and delayed til Thursday due to the weather :frown: I think this is a really fantastic endeaver, and love the fact that Joe Kittinger (who's record from 1960 is being challenged) is heavily involved even though he's in his eighties! What a guy!!!
controversial certainly - after results of last two attempts I don't think i'd be doing this with a wife and a kid..
Just watched the live stream, the man stepped off the platform at over 24 miles high! landed 4 1/2 minutes later. wow!
They must have needed extra helium to get his balls of steel up that high. Watched it live - pretty exciting (especially the bit where he's just falling flipping over and over and unable to control himself in the zero resistance. Gulp.
So did he break the sound barrier then. The sound barrier is about 760mph , but I dont think he went that fast, although what with the air being thinner up there does that mean he didnt need to go as fast as that. Also he didnt break the freefall time record . But awsome to watch live, specially with the infared showing him in glide position.
He did break the sound barrier, so they say. Had to pull chute early because his visor steamed up (what? No pin lock?) so couldn't see his instruments, hence didn't break the freefall time record. Quite good, I thought that - leaving at least one record to his mentor.
His speed would have broken down the sounds barrier, but that would have been acheived where there was practically no atmosphere to create resistance, therefore no sonic boom. Well done for not dying thou. Great job Whats next thou?
Sat here and watched as it happened, the other half was papping herself and she looked at me and said you'd jump out wouldn't you? Of course I bloody would what an experience, awesome to watch and he just casually landed
