  1. Hi guys and girls thought id do a little post on my progress of my first Ducati.
Nothing major just want a nice usable bike at the end of this, so I bought it 2 weeks ago, its a 2002 and it’s virtually been stood since 2013, a guy got it from a widow as part of a payment for him doing a bathroom, he had only done about 8 miles to the mot station and back and the bike was in his garden so he had to sell it as he didn’t want it rusting away.
The day I picked it up

So obviously it needed a full service and a bloody good clean, here are some progress pictures and im still waiting for bits to arrive then i can get it fully cleaned up. In all honesty though I thought it would be a lot worse than it is! 2A1ED9DE-6C74-4E9A-B2E9-DEA052C8990B.jpeg 77403FF2-FC8A-46B3-8A42-DD6BA07FB9AC.jpeg 22676CD5-16AC-454D-A907-86415FF3B5B3.jpeg 7DC4B326-9305-4B58-B5F3-6CD3D8199817.jpeg 87E0ED09-6C40-4B7E-AA00-6087925E1A3A.jpeg

And as you can see the air filters were in desperate need of replacement, they are perished!

And i was dreading taking the mesh filter out but a massive relief as it was clean as a whistle.

Hopefully this weekend ill be replacing belts and fuel filter, so far so good, really nice to work on and learning as i go along with the help of this forum.

  11. These are my favourite kind of threads, please keep the photos of your progress coming. It’s brilliant to see from someone who only has the confidence to do the oil and air filter and that’s about it.

  18. Little update, new belts on only took a hour but we went abit belt and braces, checked multiple times to check tension, i bet after a few goes at doing this it would fly on!
Checked the 5mm the twist method and the frequency. Fired up first turn over, well chuffed with myself, All good ill drag her out the garage and get her cleaned up this weekend.

  19. Nice one Michael! This could almost be an action replay of my experience (so far..). Also my first Ducati, also a 748 and also a bike that a widow parted with. Your shopping list is virtually identical to mine as well, Motul, same filters, fuel system, etc, etc. I did have documented evidence of belts being done recently though, so didn't need to do them, nor the grips.

Keep it up, looking forward to first ride thoughts!!

  20. thanks mate, i had a little go before I bought it, well impressed already, the grips were aftermarket when i bought it, and I thought for £30 for genuine ones its a no brainier. So far im just under 4k for everything, parts and the bike and that’s including buying a paddock stand and a optimate, plus now i know its had everything done, i think that’s abit of a bargain. Will be uploading pics at the weekend of it cleaned and hopefully ill have the heel guards all polished up :upyeah:
