I am fitting a 1098 fuel tank to my 996 engined St4s. There is not enough space for the original air box, so will a 1098 airbox fit on my engine or do I just go with a foam filter over the velocity stacks? If I go with the foam filter is there any advantage to fabricating a basic airbox or just leave it open!
I’m interested in that. I bought a cheap & tatty but mechanically sound ST2 back in Jan with the very same idea. Will you be doing a thread on the build? First question. Does the 1098 tank fit straight onto the frame without any bodging?
I bet you are not the first Jon, it's finding pictures and details of what's needed that is the hard bit - why am I even telling you this! Lots of people fit that tank to early Multistrada but again, no idea what compromises they had to resort to, or if they ended up running "open" with make-shift air filters as you described.
I believe the St frame was the same as the Monster S4. Why not try fitting an S4 airbox. It fits a 9i6 engine and goes under a monster tank. In fact I have in my garage the top off an S4 airbox and a 1098 airbox. If you can wait a day or 2 and compare the size N
There is a guy on my Facebook group that has put a 1x98 tank on his ST. The thread is titled 1198sp in an ST. https://www.facebook.com/groups/322365488613698/?ref=share
