I'm gonna go the 1098 engine route for my project bike and thinking of using a 1098 loom for the fancy dash. I was wondering if it's possible to ditch the lambda sensors and exhaust valve thingy though as i don't want to use a 1098 exhaust system.
I dont know,is the quick answer. However,I would of thought a race loom maybe, would not have that kind of thing on it.
I've had them removed from my 1098 SF. The sensors, valve and solenoid were removed, blanking plate and plugs fitted and a full ECU remap. The connectors are still there but deactivated in the ECU programme and the loom remains standard. If you're using a straight through system you just need the remap, which you'll be having anyway for a custom build.
That's a tough choice there Keith... It's going to be a road bike so I think race loom is out. Cool. So it's not going to be a nightmare like trying to bypass that stuff off the loom at least. Asking all the questions to weigh up the various engine route possibilities. Just found out the vodka bought one last night though...
If you get a DP ECU for it, this removes the checks for the lambda and exhaust valve anyway, so that would be your best option. You can also buy some plug-in modules that will fool the bike into thinking that the exhaust valve is still plugged in. Don't think you can get one for the lambda, but maybe I'm wrong. They're not expensive (under £50 for the exhaust valve) but you'd still want to sort your ECU fuel map from standard I would expect.
