In the process of putting my bike back together after suspension overhaul, I have taken the opportunity to strip and grease the rear suspension linkages. Bike has done around 5000miles but for some reason, the lower bearing looks like it has been sitting in a bath of salty water! The ball has a couple of corrosion marks on it and feels a bit gritty when it is rotated. The upper (left hand thread) one is fine. Question: is it possible to buy these (apart from direct from a dealer)? Part number on bearing is Unibal SME1220-10. Here's a pic.
I have used these guys in the past for higher spec than oe applications. Motorsport Male Rod Ends - WychBearings.co.uk I have fitted them to my suspension linkages on all my race bikes and significantly cheaper than the oe ones
You can buy from a dealer. Part 16 below. Part no 848.4.027.1A which has been supeceeded by part no 848.4.048.1A. Ducati Omaha list it at $85, so my guess would be £50 to £60 here. Obviously the bearing alone would be a lot cheaper imo It looks like your bike may have been used without a hugger at some point.
If you can find a Unibal Swiss RBC bearings stockist, yes. Their catalogue includes the reference SME 1220-10. Andy
it doesnt need to be the same manufacturer. Just tell bearing stockist what the thread size is, left or right hand, and bore size.
I had my MV Agusta wheels powder coated and had to remove the bearings. The local indy bike workshop removed the old bearings and wanted £25 a bearing to replace them. A trip to my local bearing supplier with my old bearings saw him blow some dust off an old box on the shelf and charge me £10 cash in hand for a pair.
Are you thinking of the M10 bit, which will be the hole the bolt goes through? The 19.05mm will refer to the diameter of the outer bearing I would have thought.
Andy was the one who mentioned 19.05mm as the "bore". The bore is the diameter of the hole in the spherical ball that the bolt goes through, which is nowhere near 19mm. I reckon it's 10mm. If I could be arsed, I'd go into the freezing cold garage and measure it...but I can't be arsed so I asked instead! I reckon this would do: M10 x 1.5mm Rose Joint Right Hand Male - High Performance
A Schaublin catalogue number breakdown (unless it's changed) shows it being a male M12 r/h thread (ball bore also to suit M12) with a steel/uniflon slip. The '20' refers to a special thread (majority were listed as M12 x 1.75) and the final '10' is the 'made to special drg' derivative.
My apologies, 19.05 is the diameter of the ball, the hole is 10mm. This is the link page 33 http://www.rbcbearings.com/literature/pdfs/Schaublin-RE.pdf. Andy
I can confirm: SME 12.20-10 is: - M12 x 1.5 thread - 12mm bore I ordered a RH and LH thread one of these for £9.55 each: M12 x 1.5mm Right Hand Male - High Performance Rod End Hopefully they will do the trick.
That's good to know for the future. Glad you got it sorted and you didn't get led up the wrong path by yours truly. Andy
