It started on my return from France. Bike got very hot weaving through the traffic approaching the Dartford crossing. Cooled down once through the tunnel the warning started flickering on and off coming up the A1. Stopped for fuel and it showed the error. I have bought 2 new relays. The fuse is ok and both fans work but it still shows the error The temp gauge works and it appears to only have one temp sensor unlike the 916. Have I overlooked anything. It's a 2009 with 20,000 miles
I changed the fuse still an error. I will have to clean the contacts with a jewellers file to see if that cures it. Have to leave it for one got to go to work
Have you fitted the new relays and fuse yet? If that's still not doing the trick, then it could be a dodgy temp switch. Not a lot in the circuit, fuse feeds live to load and pilot circuit of relay. Relay switched on through pilot side been grounded by ECU signal, pin 14. When load side switched both fans come on as they are wired in parallel.
Couldn't wait just been down the garage. Cleaned the fuse terminals with a jewelers file and the fuse blades and the error light has gone. Cleaned the relay "sockets" with the file ad well. Bit late to start it to see if the fans come on. Looks like the fuse holder was the culprit though
Well I started it but the fans still don't trip in. What I did notice is as it was ticking over in the garage the headlight kept going out and the dash was going blank. The engine never missed a beat when it did this I just happened to read a thread where that was happening to someone else and the consensus was the Reg/rec was going. So as of now. I have fitted an override switch. I grafted a wire onto the G/W wire and the switch grounds it as the ECU does and the fans turn on. It shows a fault if I turn it on before the temp reaches 104 above that everything is normal the fault light illuminates again when the temp drops below 101 It remains stripped down because I thought I may as well do the mosfet upgrade so I await the reg and the triumph leads Luckily still got the MV to ride
Flashing dash & headlights sounds like reg/rec. The fans have got me stumped, as your getting a temp reading it sounds like the sensor is good and the fans circuit is also good, if your manually grounding the G/W wire and the fans run, that also includes relay & fuse so I'm a bit baffled. The only check left I can think of is to see if the ECU pin 14 is issuing a ground at around 103-4 C by checking resistance between pin and ground/chassis/earth/return (or any other name). If that proves to be good then it could be a bad connector or break in the wiring somewhere. If its not it sounds like something awry with the ECU but I'm out my depth there and that scenario does seem highly unlikely. I seem to remember (but not 100%) that Ducati diag had an option to manually check the fans on it and it would be doing that via the ECU. So if you happen to have it, it may be worth a punt as test.
