1098s 2009 Wet Crank Sensor

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Madman, Jul 1, 2020.

  1. HI LOOKING FOR SOME ADVICE.
Had pkup 34 error message appear.
Bike ran fine i stopped let it cool
The light went off and off I went again
Thought I'd have a look at the sensor so see if it was dirt , as I removed it and it looked wet?
Apparently the clutch slave seals had been replaced not long ago but wasn't sure if this could be my cause or am I looking at something worse. The shim on the sensor had a lot of dirt on it so has been cleaned .

  2. The crank sensor is inside the engine block thus making it wet. From the oil.
So you are totally fine and it would be worse if it were dry.

  3. Perfect I will just replace it and re shim

  4. An sensor failure is highly unlikel, albeit possible of course.

Most of the times the shim which sets the air gap is corroded and thus bending the sensor a bit away from it’s initial position and so it starts misreading.
Clean the shim with sanding paper, remount it, measure the air gap befote you buy anything new. Check the connector of the sensor for corrosion or debris!
