1098sf Test Ride

  1. Finally managed to get a test ride on a 1098SF this afternoon...and i have to say i was a little disappointed.

i expected a serious ride, having to hang on tight, loads of noise and character.

And what i got was a smooth cultured ride, lots of low down torque, not a lot of noise and the engine didn't feel like 150bhp. It is nowhere near the power and thrust of my Multi DVT.

The bike i rode is 9 years old, has 12k miles and looks like new but it just didn't grab me as i expected it too. It looked stunning but the ride wasn't anything like as exciting. Am i missing something?

  2. Did you use the throttle enough ?

They can be ridden quite tamely or not ....

  3. I did but it felt a bit flat. I guess the power is very linear.

There was no real feeling of 'shit this is quick' like my Multi does.

  4. Maybe you need to ride another ? Had couple of folks say different after riding mine, pm me if you down at Aylesbury Duc

  5. When the ignition is turned on do they all say 'Racing' across the dash? Wasn't sure if that meant it had a race map fitted but it was a standard exhaust.

Just a bit disappointed TBH as i was expecting much more from the engine. Its not slow but equally its not 'grab you by the throat' mental.

  6. Not had a go on a tuned hyper then......

  7. Says racing if it’s got the the termi’s and updated ECU, not sure what you expected but a handful means front wheel waving in the air and without baffles the Termi’s will wake the dead

Nowhere near as quick as the Pani R but a hooligans toy

  8. It's got the ECU from the Termi slip on kit fitted. Or the map from that anyway.

Mine was noticeably less powerfull than my 1098R on a back to back ride, but still well quick enough and just different. Definately fast enough for a naked bike where anything over 100mph had your neck hurting.

  9. Thats the thing though....its power to weight ratio....hyper is less than 100 bhp but has the foot poundage to match and the power to weight...i suspect the sf to be the same...

  10. That may explain some of it then if the ECU map doesn't match the exhaust.

To be fair my Multi is very quick anyway so maybe i was expecting too much.

  11. The multi is a 1200 also...sf is old school...

  12. Maybe but as @Robarano said not sure you need much more for a naked bike to be honest,

  13. Having said that id love to try a multi...they do look like fun...

  14. Doesn't sound right at all, Mine certainly isn't tame far from it, Ive never ridden mine with standard exhaust or ecu, Be good for you to try one that's got matching ecu and race termis, they cant be far of one of the lightest nakeds ether,

    Cheers Jack

  15. I wouldn't disagree that is has enough power.

Just the way it made it felt quite tame to me. Its was much smoother than my DVT Multi as well.

  16. The first Multi 1200S was 150bhp (factory figures) and the 1098S SF was 155bhp (factory figures) and with 100cc less - something was wrong on the comparison rides for sure

  17. Maybe....i was only stating the multi looked like a bit of fun like the sf is a brilliant hooligan...

  18. I don't like the looks of the Multi so could never live with one :scream: looks better than the V4 though :eyes:
