1100 Evo Alternator Stator Knackered, Why?

  1. Had suspect charging for a while on my Hyper evo, having checked all connections finding no issues, decided to get the meter out, 1st checked the output from reg/rec to battery, 12.1v@4000rpm, was expecting 14v..., 2nd check was alternator output with connector unplugged, manual states 27+/-10@2000 & 78+/-10@6000, checked all 3 permutations & got, 11.4v,5.5v & 6.7v@2000 & 26.7v,11v & 14.5v @ 5000, so I assume this tells me stator is knackered.
What causes stator to fail? bike 31/2 years old, though 40k miles.

  2. Bought a 2011 796 item, same part number, should be correct, we'll see...Got new Electrex R/R to be sure.

  3. Loose nut on the multimeter?
    Corrosion?
More than likely a bad or high reistance on the connector leading to an overheat on the windings breaking down the oil into toast like bits?
