Hello, I have a full 70mm Termignoni system on my bike and having a good look while cleaning the other day I noticed that the silencers are looking a bit tired underneath, with some brown discolouration on one of them and just general chips etc after many years on the bike. I really like the look and sound of the slash cut homologated titanium Termignoni silencers part number 96198709B. I heard them on a 1098 the other week and I was so surprised with how amazing they sounded. My question is do I have to put the original chip back into the bike for it to run properly with the 70mm system ending in homologated silencers, the race chip will be unhappy with cats obviously, no?Do I need to start messing about with Power Commanders etc? Because if I put the original standard chip back in I will lose the traction control and power. If you are wondering why I want homologated silencers it’s because I get a lot of trouble from the police here if I don’t run dB killers and I think that might be why one of them is becoming discoloured underneath, they really increase the heat in the silencers. Yes, I cut the ends off the dB killers about halfway down and drilled a lot of holes in the sides of what was left, but if I am caught with that it’s actually worse than not running dB killers in the first place! Bike confiscated, massive fine etc etc. They’ve already confiscated one bike from me in the past for this and they know me here, it’s a small place where I live we’re not in a big city. I am considered a repeat offender for non homolgated bike bits which is why they always hassle me and I can’t be bothered anymore. The next time they stop me I would like to pull out the certificate of homologation and tell them f you.... By the way, the bike was running strange last year and I took it to a rolling road, the bad running it was traced to a faulty sensor. I know that all dynos are different and there are a lot of factors but after a new sensor the bike made 168 rear wheel horsepower, with my messed around dB killers fitted. Not bad even if it is a friendly dyno, but the bike deserves better than my amateur Frankenstein dB killers as they are embarrassing to look at and the engineering that’s gone into my bike deserves more respect.
I some times run standard 1098 cans with cats on my 1198 with 70mm system for the same reason, without any problems. Try it and see what it runs like, you might be surprised.
