Hi all, What makes the 1199 Panigale special? I don't mean that in a way that suggests its not a special bike (I'm still not completely sure on it tho). What I mean is at the end of the day it's a Ducati superbike right? All the other Superbikes share one thread, but oh no not the Panigale! It needs to either be in with the other superbikes or split the superbikes into their specific models....surely!
Agree! Panigale is a nice bike but not that special imho, and way overpriced. It certainly does not move the game on in the same way the S1000RR did...
I think the departure from the rubber bands is a telling enough move to warrant its own slot. Effectively it's a new 'superbike' at least for Ducati. Similarly, when they get around to the 899 or whatever it's going to be called, I'd expect to find it in the 'panigale' section. This new engine is going to end up in everything sooner or later in various guises and states of tune. Would a post modern monster with a new name and 'this' engine still be a monster? 1199 Mutley? The same applies..... The question I want answering is are the characteristics of the panigales revvy nature going to be translated right across the board to the 'new' models or can/will they make it more torque happy again by changing the cam profiles etc? I'd like to think yes. I see the panigale as a massive test mule for a whole new breed of Ducatis. So yes I'm in favour of it having its own slot at present in the same way the bevels have.
What we need to establish is the 1199 special enough to warrant its own superbike section, or the other way round!!! Yeah....,
Personally I like the thought of a superbike headed thread containing all the various models as sub threads. An example, Sometimes people post a question or advice in the superbike section without mentioning which bike....no big problem just check their profile....oh its not complete, their ride is missing. In a model specific thread its not so difficult to guess which bike we're talking about. As my original post said I'm not saying the panigale is not special, its just that Ducati chose to sell the next generation Ducati under the superbike marque and not as something 'different'
So if I put my cam chain is rattling in the current superbike thread we're all going to know what model bike we're talking about? Do Bativus' have cam chains?
I suggest you go back and re read what I said.... The bit that said a superbike headed thread containing all the various models as sub threads......
Yeah agreed, but the term 'superbike' is overdone in every sense these days. I think the 1199 is special enough to deserve its own section though, that's all I'm saying. The rest was just 'baiting'
Gone are the days when Ducati would put there new Super Bike on the Track to prove its a Super Bike. To me It might as well be in the cruiser class . Whats it actually done to be called a super bike . Not even been on the track yet . Could be the worst Super Bike of all time. Time will tell.
Jesús! A thread about Superbike taxonomy. Are some of you zoologists by any chance? I have to say I don't mind where the Panigale lives. I pretty much only ever look at "Settings" to find out if there is anything new in the threads I had something to say about, or "What's New" to see if there are any new threads I might have something to say about.
Indeed, it still has the same two lung eight valve heart but instead of being driven by the conventional rubberised plasma it is now powered by the more popular and generally considered the more reliable blood variety. What really makes this species worthy of a new heading is the spinal structure of this new genre. A completely new monocoque single cell structure rather than the again more conventional organic nature of the dying species. Or some such bollocks ....
Alex Polita no longer riding the 1199 in BSB . Dosent ring good for the 1199 racing project .BSB Forum • View topic - no Alex Polita?
