Took a 1199S out this morning whilst my Multi was being serviced. Its an epic bike to ride but i left it in Wet mode for most of the ride as its' much better being able to cane the bike fairly hard rather than wondering if its going to bite me back. Found it really annoying to ride in Sport mode TBH as the throttle seems way to sensitive to any slight adjustment. Are they all like that? I suspect the 899 must make for a great roadbike as in Wet mode on the 1199 i would have liked just a little more power to my wrist. But the dealer doesn't have an 899 demo bike as they sell everyone they can get their hands on. Lovely thing to ride...but still happy to get back on the Multi.
My thoughts are exactly same as you have written. I rode one last year and enjoyed it more in wet mode as in the other modes the throttle was too sensitive. 899 seems to make more sense but I don't lust after a 899 like I do a 1199. Just doesn't seem as special for some reason. I'm going to try to get a ride on a mvf3 on thurs and see what that offers.
I'll be interested to see what you make of that, having tried one myself (albeit briefly). Do stick your review up on here.
The thing with the Pani 1199 is that it needs to be ridden hard. I use race throttle all the time. Try to ride casually / cruising and between 4k-5k there is some jerkiness, but put some effort in and the bike is amazing. I did try sport throttle at the weekend and yes it is smoother but for me, too vanilla. Certainly on my bike the throttle is smoooooth in sport mode. Tried wet mode once and thought the bike was broken. Don't get me wrong, I am not a loon on the road but to get the most of the 1199 it needs to be ridden hard. Tiring perhaps, but I always have a large smile when I get off the bike and mean to stay that way.
I suspect if i owned one then I would want to step up to full on race mode but i only had the bike for an hour and wanted to enjoy riding it rather than get annoyed with ultra sensitive throttles and that is when the Wet mode became useful. Plus i could work the motor hard and get something useful back from it. Had a huge grin and and felt very exhiliarted by the ride when i got back. Would have to be a 2nd bike for me now though, i do love the comfort of the Multi and its no slower on 99% of roads.
I have a 1000ss aswell as an 1199 and when I've been riding the SS for any length of time then get back on the 1199 it does feel very sensitive and a bit snatchy by comparison so I can relate to what you say. You do get used to it and learn to master it. I think I'm right in saying after owning the three previous generations of superbike the 1199 is the easiest by far to control at lower revs. You've just been spoilt by the Multi's forgiving nature! lol!
It's been said in quite a few threads already but the sensitive throttle is something you get used to within a day or two of riding the bike. As long as you are the sort of rider who gives it a bit of beans more often than not rather than mooches along then you will not have any problems or get annoyed with it. If you prefer to chill then I can imagine it getting frustrating as they dont really do chill mode
