  1. By coincidence Charles Darwin, one of the greatest Brits, and Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest Americans, were born on the very same day - 12 February 1809. They both changed the world for the better, but in very different ways.

  3. True, it was not Darwin who discovered the truth about the Ice Ages and glaciers. His special contribution was to discover the mechanism which drives the evolution of life forms, perhaps the greatest of all scientific discoveries (though there are other candidates for that distinction).
     
  4. Similarly I was just thinking almond the same lines whilst judging the driving abilities of fellow road users on the M6.

  5. My mother and mother in law were both born on the same day, same year (13th February - yes tomorrow) and they are both called Nina.

  8. yip, origin of species. wonder how darwin would get on with the current president. got to be some creationists on his team.
     
  9. Yes there are. And that is the reason for remembering this anniversary more this year than last.
