170 Tyre on a 5.5 rim Hypermotard

  1. I was thinking to try the Michelin Anarkee 111 tyres over winter but only goes up to 170, will this be ok on a 5.5 rim?

  2. Moved to Hyper

  3. Hi Hyberbimduke, The 170/60R17 Anakee 3 was designed around the new BMW 1200 GS. It is specifically for an adventure style bike.
The rim width is 4.5 inches on the GS, against the 5.5 inch Hyper rear wheel.
Also the load index on the tyres are totally different. Not sure what the consequences would be in an insurance claim? (God forbid). If you want a tyre for the winter, why not fit a Michelin Pilot Road 3 ? Decent mileage and outstanding in the wet, and you can get them in the correct size for the Hyper.

  4. Another suggestion would be the new Bridgestone S20s - nice in the wet, not bad for the odd track day and wear pretty well so they say. I had battleaxes on my gixxer and loved them. That said you will get 100s of opinions on tyres and when all is said and done it partly depends on your riding style as what's good for you may be nasty for someone else. Currently I'm on the Pirelli Supercorsas - most of he time I love them but we've had a few moments and as a consequence if it's wet or below 10 degrees c she stays in the garage!

  5. generally a 170/60 on a 5.5" rim is just fine and handles better than a 180. Other Ducatis like the 907ie or the 900SS used just this combination.

  6. If they did a 17" front I'd order today, but they dont, guess I'll stick with the BT016 P
