1981 Ducati Pantah, Hard To Find Neutral When Warm

Discussion in 'Vintage' started by Saltspringer, Apr 19, 2021.

  1. Hi

I have about 200 shakedown kilometres on my Pantah and, after dealing with a couple of minor adjustment issues, it seems to be running very well. I have found that it is very hard, if not impossible, to find neutral when it is warm.... The shift lever is also "lazy" and I find I have to drop it into gear and nudge it back to the center point, before I shift again.

I suspect the shift lever return spring is getting weak, but before I start pulling parts off the bike has anyone else had this issue and what was the fix?

The bike probably has the early, three-dog transmission and I understand that the later transmissions went to a six-dog shift. Is that correct and would that swap go some way to solving this problem?

Apart from these issues the bike is awesome to ride!

Many thanks in advance for any help or guidance.

    Andy
