hey my peoples! i have a 82 250 that i bought a few years back offa a mate.. it did run but is in a sorry state. (will post pics soon.) i basically bought it coz it was too cheap not too. i paid £150 for it.... it was in me workshop but due to the lack of space has spent the last 2 years outside... anyhu, im now thinking of doing something with it.. should i restore it to its former glory or make a cool as fuck super moto outta it? old school blue smoke with modern bits?
ive not rode motor x in over 20 years (and have zero intention of doing so now!!) but from memory all the old strokers were the same ish.. 20 hours at race pace or 30-40 fucking round.. id do my kx 125 a couple of times a year and it was a piece of piss.. tapered bore so no need for ring compresses and what not.. had it down to about 20 mins
its kinda complete... needs everything restoring or renewing.. but looking online today, surprisingly enough, there is a lot of nos bits out there and not too rich either... still thinking about white power forks, road tires and stuff...
no.. ive not touched it since slinging it outside... but it wouldnt be a major even if it has... id rebuild the engine regardless as its not huge money and piece of mind,,
tbh im pretty set on doing something with it..just not sure what... i like the idea of a super moto type thing but is it a waste of a classic? it is a rare model, 1st water cooled 250 and last of the drum brakes... not saying its worth shit loads but perhaps its worth restoring...
Had an 80's RM250, One with blue engine, Took a gamble and bought it with a cracked cylinder due to no antifreeze and engine mounts were cracked among other things, Reconditioned the engine etc and had a few years of fun with it, Was many moons ago, Few photos would be nice
A full reto would prob run you more than it's worth, but you prob know that. Would be a decent Evo bike. Is the frame solid
yeah its all sound just tatty..... i reakon around 2-3k to do a pukker resto... i dont think it would be dead money but certainly not a maker... im still keen on going off beat and making something cool
Enduro, mx, but the super Moto are usually 4 bangers. I think the kart men like rm engines so must rev good
3k for a reto bike would be good money, prob break even. I rode an 80's rm250 a few weeks ago but it had head work done, quick bike.
Had one of these back in the day ... loved it .. at that purchase price a resto would be viable if complete and not all fucked You could still do the resto , but also find a suitable front end from a later year trail bike with discs , re build some spare wheels on 17’s and go SM if that’s what you want
