916 1997 916 Sps Stupid Questions

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Kevin Tallant, Jun 6, 2019.

  1. I'm the new proud owner of a 916 97 sps that needs a bit of love to get back to it's glory days.
Can anybody point me in the right direction for the front discs (fully floating ?)
I have a miss match of wheels for the beast at moment, what 3 spoke wheels should it have ? Silver with no wording around hub or bronze with raised wording around hub ?
Camera phone is playing up, but will try & find some pics. Screenshot_20190522-221318_eBay.jpg

  3. Definitely bronze and matches frame perfectly as same paint. Iirc has Ducati around the hub but can’t remember if Racing is also there

  4. Ah, well done for winning :):upyeah:

  5. I remember that bike,

  6. Actually lost, but winner bidder a messer, guy handling sale was absolute gent & gave me second dibs. Can thoughly recommend Biker Bus if you need bike moved from Scotland asap. It's with a ducati specialists getting full service & the can of worms is fully open !

  7. I've used them, very good, great vans and bike fixing system... :):upyeah:

  8. To be honest it's probaly going to end up with the (repainted) gold, as only have one of the other wheels. Trying to concentrate on getting it mechanically sound & rideable first. Been offered a full fairing respray for around £1000, seem about right ?

  10. Aren't all 916 wheels of that era (fronts) the same? (Guessing its a front you need, just paint the rear)

  11. There is a gold front on evilbay, with discs. Sps Facebook page seems to suggest the Ducati racing stamped rear I have is correct (Just painted nastly) it's all very confusing with Ducatis !

  12. I have this for sale, i did mention i like gold wheels :) but it looks like you already have a front
    Brembo 3 Spoke Wheel

  15. I remember that bike, congratulations:upyeah: and well done.

I remember reading somewhere else on here that the 'Ducati Racing' marked wheels only appeared on the very early models, iirc, whilst Ducati was owned by Cagiva. Once Texas Pacific bought them (1996 I think) they dropped the embossing on the wheels.

Neither the rear wheel nor the front wheel on the bike in your picture are the correct wheels. Nor is the one in the van. Not sure what they're off as I don't think the colour and black rims are original at all. IMO the correct wheels for that year are the ones as per @Roadtrip's pictures.

Keep us posted how things develop.

  16. The only new brake rotors I can find are €880 ! Had a sniff of slightly used set, but think I may have been gazumped on sps Facebook page

  17. These are apparently off a 1997 sps, should have snapped wheels & rotors up. But trying to concentrate funds on getting beast running first !

  19. Also thouhgt it was just the early ones(94-95) with ducati racing on the back wheel, but like you said you never know with those italians back in the day.
I have some old folders, gonna have a look on it maybe can see the back wheel clear.
Or just put 5 spokes in it and don’t worry about it,looks alot better.

    Henk!!!
