916 1998 Ducati Biposto 916

  1. Couple of questions I have about my 916..

First issue I have, is when riding it the temp gauge goes right up to max and back down to normal riding temp within a few seconds, happens quite a few times. What would cause this and what do I need to change to fix it?

Also I guess the bike was imported many years ago as the clock and millage are in km. Is it possible to convert this to mph and also change the clock, what would I need to do this?

    Cheers roadkill

  2. 1. Possibly a faulty temp sensor sending a duff electrical signal to the gauge, you could try a replacement ( or just live with it).

    2. source a replacement speedo in Mph and swap them over but take photos of the 2 speedos side by side at the time do the displayed distance covered can be verified when you come to sell it.

How many Km has yours done? I can ask around here in ROI as there are many many UK imports with Mph and someone may want to swap for a Kmh clock, you never know.

  3. I guess I would get one of these straight from the dealer, or would you risk ebay, then I suppose I have a risk of that being faulty! I will get back to you about how many kms my bike has done as soon as

  4. My clock has a simple km/h to mp/h sticker stuck to the glass
    Works very effectively.

  5. Yes mine has said sticker, but I think it let's the bike down as looks a bit tacky

  6. How very dare you, I take great pride in my translation sticker :)

Mind you it is on a mere 900ss

  7. I blame my ocd... and to be fair it's more the mileage that I want changing as not keen on the km, especially as I'm running it in, so pain converting all the time...

  8. Check also the connector on the temp sender. It's just a simple spade terminal and can get dirty or loose over time. Give it a clean and tighten the tabs with a gentle squeeze of the pliers.
The gauge fluctuating can also be an early sign of the reg/rec playing up.
