  2. You will need a special tool to fit that nut on the end of the camshaft that holds the pulley on.
Remove the bearing support on the opposite side, remove the rockers. I use a slide hammer with an M5 screw into the thread in the end of the spindles to pull them out but an M5 screw a suitable piece of tube will do. Undo the nut on the camshaft and you will be able withdraw it out the opposite side. There is a shim between the camshaft shoulder and the inner bearing, take care not to lose it. There is also a spacer between the bearings.
You will need another tool to keep the closer springs in place when re-fitting the rockers.

  3. Great explanation Derek thank you for that really appreciated .. Where did you get the special nut tool from... ? Thank you again.. X

  4. As Derek says, you need a silly nut socket............which you can make from an ordinary socket...........But you only need to remove one of the valve's rockers............IIRC you only need to remove the rockers and not the lifters.

You remoove the spring clip from the rocker shaft and draw the rocker shafts out.

Also note there may be shims between the ends of the rockers and the sidewalls of the heads........don't mix them up.

Once the rockers are out, you can rotate the cam slightly as you withdraw it, so it misses the pair of lifters.

That way you don't need another tool to deal with the lifter springs, neither do you need to stop the valves from dropping down.

Bear in mind when you remove the silly nut, the pulley and the washers etc, and the withdraw the cam, you run the risk of the tacho drive worm gear on the horizontal cam dropping down between the pulley and middle bearings, so you would need to realign that when you reinsert the cam........on the vertical cylinder there will be a spacer rather than the tacho worm gear.

  5. Super stuff thank you friend... I have to strip the heads all the way though as they are being media blasted and then having stage 4 work done... X

  6. I'm 5 miles from you...........and I still have two silly nut sockets which I made...........you want to borrow one, come and get it.

But if you are stripping them right down, FFS change the bearings as you rebuild, they aren't OTT £ss wise and it will save you having to go back in later.

  8. Thanks mTe... Hopefully, Chris or Lougi will be building it back up... Mind you finding it difficult to keep in touch with them.. A bit elusive ... X
