For Sale 2006 Ducati 749 Dark

Discussion in 'Ducati Bikes For Sale' started by RJames, Oct 19, 2017.

  1. I'm selling my much loved 2006 749 Dark. It's an awesome machine but I feel the urge to fulfil a childhood dream and get a bright red litre Ducati, so the first step is to find this beauty a new home.

I'm the second owner and bought her roughly two years ago with 6000 miles on the clock.
I don't have all the service paperwork to hand (I'll have a look for it), but I'm hoping that if I bat my eyelashes I'll be able to get copies from OnYerBike/Ducati Aylesbury where she has been serviced regularly by their Ducati specialist. I have keys, manual etc. There are just under 26000k miles on the clock now. I've found the bike to be reliable (enough to commute on!) and surprisingly good for cruising at higher speeds despite its class. It's quite highly strung and doesn't enjoy being stuck in traffic at 20mph...but you expect that!

This is a fast example of the bike by all accounts, and has some nice features. A full Termingnoni system was already installed when I purchased the bike, and sounds beasty. I suspect the previous owner had the bike mapped after installing it based on the extra power it has over a standard 749. Carbon exhaust cover, Brembo brakes, Marchesini wheels, carbon huggers front and rear, carbon heat shield, carbon around the front of the tank, clear indicator lenses, open clutch cover, Dzus clips and a battery charger plug/lead. It's definitely a head-turner - even amongst Ducatistis (never thought I'd use that word...) as the 749 Dark is pretty rare and looks meaner than most.

There is some wear and tear as to be expected at this mileage but nothing major. Some marks and scratches - however the bike came with a protective transparent wrap that will have protected the paintwork underneath to an extent and can be peeled off by hand.

I put some new Michelin Pilot Road 4 tires on it a month ago. I have since done a track day (the only one on this bike) and a few hundred miles, but there is still plenty of life in them.

New clutch plates and a custom titanium clutch basket were installed by an engineer friend of mine a few months ago. His design has been tested on the track by a racing team and myself, and has been excellent in the 749 (quieter and smoother). Being titanium it is tougher than aluminium and lighter than steel baskets.

The MOT lasts until February 2018. The bike is due for a service which I've booked in for 31st October (a couple of weeks from now) so you won't need to worry about that for a while. There is no outstanding finance or any other issues.

The 749 is based in Bicester, Oxfordshire. I'm looking for £3275 ono!

If you have any questions please ask. I'm planning to take some more pictures if/when I can find time in the next couple of weeks.

(Special thanks to DRR117 for posting an ad that I could cheekily use as a template :) )
