2008 848 Ohlins conversion

  1. I am looking to maybe fit some ohlins forks to my 08 848 the forks in question are from a 1198s has anyone carried this conversion out before and if so what all is involved ?

  2. Not done it on an 848 (did it on a 916) but you will need a larger bottom yoke as the Ohlins forks are 3mm bigger diameter at the bottom than the Showa.

I'm not sure if the yoke set is interchangeable between 848 and 1098/1198? but you could bore out the yoke if not swapping it.

Everything else should be a straight swap.

  3. Thanks for that info that ties up with what the lad I am getting them off said as well. He has the yoke that will fit also he said and is willing to include that in the sale of the forks with new bearings and so on to go with it so should be good.

If all else fails I work for a subsea engineering company I am sure I can make it fit ;)

  4. Isn;t the stem different between the 848 and the 10/1198?

If you don't but the forks I might be interested...:upyeah:

  5. It may well be I am not sure mate I have emailed Ducati Glasgow about it if anyone will know I am sure they will

  6. You need the stem and bottom yoke, normally they are in one anyway as its pressed in. Also there are two types, one of a 1*98 and the DP kit for a 848 specific kit (i was told) although no idea what difference there is (think it may be the stem)

rule of thumb: if it was fitted to an 848 get the kit and it slides straight on, otherwise ask a dealer

  7. Thanks Bradders

The guy I am getting it off is supplying the yoke with stem, new seals, bearings the lot. When I asked him if the shocks fitted the 848 he said I would need the yoke as well, which he would throw in seen as I was taking the rear Ohlins shock as well off him.

  8. Easy switch, takes hardly any time with two of you. Just need the tool, or make one, to get the stem nut off

imho ohlins front was the best thing I had by a mile, esp with the TTX rear, made suspension adjustments so much easier as a click or two made real difference. Could be soft and compliant on road, but not bottom out, and firm and sold for track and give loads of feedback

    worthwhile change :upyeah:

    Gratuitous pic time..
