2013 Multi Skyhook Left Fork Clunk ... What’s The Fix?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by m@tt, Sep 12, 2021.

  1. i have the LH fork clunk when fully extended. All I can find regarding a fix mentions a warranty replacement of the complete fork.
Does anyone know what the root cause is and if it’s fixed with the overhaul kit available from Ducati ? Suspect not as it seems to only include bushes and seals ?

    Thanks

  2. I suspect you'll have to strip the fork down completely to find out exactly what is making that noise, there's no point trying to second guess it. You may very well find that when you get to the bushes/seals stage it becomes evident and there's no need to go any further.

  3. Not trying to second guess it, but all examples I can find were fixed by replacing the left complete fork.
The parts diagram doesn’t give much of a clue as to what could wear . There’s no top out spring that I can see , and very few serviceable parts that would cause a clunk on full extension
I’ll strip it and hopefully be able to see what’s wrong and reproduce on the bench

  4. Different fork I know, and I had no electrickery on mine, but on my Monster 1100S I had a clunk from the front end on braking or going over bumps, eventually traced it to the forks, stripped them down to find the preload adjuster in one hadn’t been fully screwed home into the preload rod. The clunk was the adjuster bashing against the threaded top of the rod . You’ll never know what it is until you look inside.

  5. if you are all out of options re: hunting for cause and remedy online* (including:- https://www.ducati.ms/search/266668/?q=clunk&t=post&c[child_nodes]=1&c[nodes][0]=44&o=relevance), then it's Neil at Cornerspeed or Brad possibly.

    * on a quick look, the addition of shims appears to help three posters.
also - worth confirming for the reader, this is Sach manufacture?

  6. Was there a solution to this problem? The chamber at the bottom of the cartridge to allow for expansion leaks the gas. This enters the fork and extends it as in adding preload. This causes the topping out over bumps. I have mine apart and am considering fitting a spring to perform the work of the gas! Bear in mind that the oil in the fork leg only lubricates the bushings. The oil in the cartridge performs damping duties
