2014 M696 Gear Shift Alignment

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Tom Bentley, Mar 1, 2017.

  1. Good afternoon,

Having recently purchased an M696 as my first bike and excitedly took it for its first spin this morning with my new boots, I realised that my stupid size 14 feet struggle to get themselves underneath the shifter, and having scoured the internet of how to adjust I have not been able to find out to much info.

I'm assuming it requires moving a spline, but just wanted to check the right bolts, which way to turn etc before attempting.

    Many thanks for your help.

  2. You shouldn't need to move the selector on the splined shaft. Does your bike not have an adjustable shift rod? If so just undo the bolts on each end of the central part of the rod (one will be a LH thread), then rotate the central part. This will cause the rod length to change, altering the height of the lever.

  3. Hi Razz,

Thanks for the reply. Yes it does, but it was at it's at it's full thread length. I loosened the circular coupling and moved it around on the the spline which means I can get my foot under a lot more, but obviously now the selection is higher so not perfect. I'm assuming I can adjust the rod down in order to make this easier?

On another note-in most people's opinion is the back break on the monsters generally spongy or with a bit of play? Feels like I'm having to almost get my foot vertically pointing at the ground before she starts to bite properly. Could just be as bike is 2014 and will only get her first MOT this year that this has not been checked?

    Thanks

  4. Yes, you can.
Lots of Ducatis have spongy back brakes. They need perfect bleeding in order to get all of the air out and a good feel. It can be done. It easier with a vacuum bleeder that most workshops have, but it can be done at home. One trick is to remove the caliper from the swing-arm and raise it above the master cylinder. Any air should rise to the highest point which will now be very close to the bleed nipple on the caliper.
