950 2017/18 950 Or 2016/2017 1200 New Purchase?

  1. So long story short, I’m looking to change my current bike, a Triumph Bonneville T100 Black to something for longer journeys, weekend fun trips and some light commuting in Central London My budget is around £8.5k. I’ve test rode F850GS, Tiger 800 and 900’s but not yet the Multi. I’ve previously owned 2 Ducati Monsters and still really love the brand so keen to maybe get back on one. My question is and I’m looking for opinions on if a 2 or 3 year old 950 is as good as a slightly older 1200?

I’m trying to keep choice down to a red bike, less than 10k miles with heated grips and panniers. I’ve read plenty about the 950 is as good and easier to live with than the 1200. However, it just doesn’t look as good as a 1200. I only do 1500 miles a year so it’s not an everyday bike. Is the 1200 a much better all round bike or would a 950 be easier to live with in Central London?

  2. Having commuted on my 1200 for many years I don’t think the 950 would be much different. I did have one as a loan at one point and day to day it was similar in traffic. Same size, engine performance was perfectly ok, the larger front wheel possibly made changing direction a little easier as the steering felt lighter (I’m talking slow speeds)
