So, in light of the recent over dramatic response to a couple of bad engines I thought it best to put a list together of 3rd party warranty suppliers, costs of cover and a general who's the best of them. If Ducati do end up releasing any statement or recall in light of these recent issues then it doesn't matter and owners can rest easy. But for those remotely concerned this could be a nice easy place to find details of the providers of 3rd party warranty. I'm not saying you need it as that would again just be flaming the fires, I think it will however be something on a few peoples minds. So if people could please post the details of what they've got warranty wise it'd be a great help to many (just in case) I presume we need: Supplier Cost (yearly/monthly) excess if applicable whats covered mileage you specified for annual use year and model of bike Restrictions on who carries out the work (Ducati trained/approved or specified by insurer)
I believe you can get a third year's warranty from ducati within 18 months of purchasing a new bike - for around £300. Is that right?
Yes I think so but the idea of this is for those out of warranty really mate and for the knowledge to be spread
I just got a renewal quote for my Mutley (11 plate) from Warranty Direct. £590. last year I paid £350 with them. Mate with 848 Evo Cosre SE paid £199 for 3 rd year. So what does that tell you? They have more warranty work for Mutley's
Nope. It tells you they have a model which is cheap to acquire, then push margins up over the renewal terms. Once you have it, you see value it in and are more unlikely to cancel
I just got quoted £325 with warranty direct so adds weight to bradders theory Based on 10k max per year First quote they gave was £440 before I haggled
Higher risk and more margins, in theory the AP one will have just had a service etc, whereas the warranty onecould be about to blow up...
damodici is your warranty for year 3 to end point year 4 from first registration? Or as mine was last year, from the manufacturers warranty end to end of year 3?
It's been a quote for the first year out of manufacturers warranty so I guess year 3? To be honest though I'm also going to call the auto protect tomorrow as its worth speaking to a few first.
Sounds good value that, is this them? Automotive Insurance Solutions | AutoProtect I presume your still ok to fit exhaust and/or accessories but they're just not covered which is understandable
Thanks. Warranty Direct dropped it down to £380 after the, 'i need to speak to my manager' normal blah blah. Will do same as you and ring AP.
It looks like the right place yes, I just got the paperwork with my bike and didn't deal with them personally as was arranged by Riders. Same logo, phone numbers and address details. Hopefully they offer a similar price going direct as they do for through a dealership/bike purchase. For reference mine is a 2012 plate with 2K miles on it. Modifications are not covered even if dealer fitted, unless you specify them at the time of the policy and will not be replaced if they fail if not listed. Thinking things like if say dealer fitted a set of Termi's or something similar and I didn't declare them - it doesn't seem to stipulate that ALL the warranty is then void like an insurance policy would be in the event of a crash etc. Probably best to put everything back to standard if going in for work (related or not) to save any arguments I guess. Obviously (touch wood!) I haven't actually dealt with them to go through a claim or anything so can't speak for their service/wiggle out of claims etc.
Looking at it, the bike MUST have proof of service history to qualify so you may be right there, they may be more expensive for those without.
Well I think it goes without saying to keep service history up to date with or without warranty, especially if you're to stand any chance of help from Ducati or anybody else.
The fact that people feel obliged to mitigate risk with this product speaks volumes in itself. Of all my other bikes , extended warranty was never a discussion point between owners. Admittedly I refreshed my bike after 8 years of owning that from new, so this may be indicative of all modern bikes now ? Does not feel like progress to me.
I understand from my dealer that the Ducati extended is now available up to 23 months from purchase.. I agree with Psy69, why do we spend 15K then discuss additional "insurance" against failure.
Because mechanical things break. And these days mechanical things are so complex, they are expensive to fix.
Nothing is fixed (as in mend) these days. Everything is modular and is replaced, so complexity is really a none issue in terms of repair. That aside, it does not explain the thought behind being psychologically compelled to extend warranty. My car cost more and is also mechanical and complex(?), though I don't feel a nagging need to extend a warranty as I do with this bike. Not saying its wrong , or anyone is bonkers for doing so, more that its the first bike that has seriously made me think about extending.
Lot more to go wrong on many of today's bikes with ABS, DTC and Skyhook on Multis - and parts prices are very high. I had a rear accelerometer replaced under warranty (unnecessarily as it turned out because the problem was the cable routing!) and the part alone cost £600! So better safe than sorry. Would I go back to a more basic, slightly cheaper-to-run Jota? Not in a million years. But I will buy a third year of warranty cover!
Well my 3rd year warranty just cost me £325 with warranty direct so not really worth worrying about. I appreciate not all have the money (neither do I really) but as there's no excess to pay and it covers everything with work being done by my chosen service centre I thought its well worth while. I can even transfer it to a new owner if I so wish, pretty good I thought
