I'm toying with the idea of a winter project in the form of shoehorning a 4v or watercooled lump into my SS. I think that rather than going big bore et al, its far more economical and I will gain more by going this route, and the 4v engines will give me instantly more reliable power and be more economical than any work big work on the 2v So my question is this, obvious things like airbox and rads / coolant tanks aside, what do I need to know? I'd need the engine and throttlebodies and ECU / loom, but would I need anything specific to the bike that would need to be coded in such as instrument cluster / keysets etc? I was looking at a 748 or 749 or 848 engine as the doner, which would also give me the chance to strip the 900ss engine down and get her properly detailed and refinished, All advice very welcome. I'm loathed to buy a whole doner bike as even knackered 4vers aren't cheap thanks to you racer boys out there and I don't know enough people to blag a 916 off anyone for 500 quid and a packet of smokes!
