Hi guys I've taken the swingarm off my 748 and have noticed that the bearings are looking like they are on the wrong side of completely knackered. Does anyone have any advice or tips on replacing them before I do something stupid? Luckily both my old man and brother are engineers, so getting hold of a press and making any tools/drifts shouldn't be an issue if required. But any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks
They are easy enough to get in and out. If I remember correctly it's possible to buy replacement bearings from a bearing stockist so you don't have to go the OEM route and buy from Ducati. A special tool is listed to drift the bearings in and out and they are sometimes to be seen on eBay although the job can be done without any special tools. Nearside has two needle bearings and offside has a roller bearing.
Red998 - is there a specific direction that I should be pushing the bearings out from? I've got the two needle bearings out, but am struggling with the roller bearing.
Remove the inner spacer on the offside from inside the swinging arm. When that is out you will need to drive against the outer spacer to move the bearing inwards and it should come out as a lip can form on the outer edges of the arm. It's been a while since I did this job, check to see if there is a lip, if not then you can drive the bearing from inside the arm, which is better. It's just to avoid taking a chunk out of the arm if it is lipped over. If you look at the side you have out of then you can check to see if there is a lip as it will be on both sides more than likely, if not then drive the bearing out from the inside. Mine came out quite easily but you should use a bit of heat to expand the alloy to make it easier. If you look at the diagram from the parts manual you can see what I mean.
