748/998 Under Seat Breather

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by bettes, Dec 13, 2018.

  1. Thinking about putting an under seat breather box on the 998. From what little info i’ve got so far..
New crank case breather with angled neck for the tube to breather? Gutted.
    The breather box itself.
And the new housing for the reed valve into the air box.
Could anyone who’s fitted this to their bike offer any useful info / photos. @andyb ?

    Thanks, Ian

  2. bit cold out but ill do something..

i used the more shallow underseat box
the outlet off of the rear of the engine is available
the original valve inside the airbox is hard to find i used a crankcase breather from a 999, cut it in half turned it around and turned a alloy piece for the pipe mount
the next difficult bit is the in and out pipes...i wouldn't bother with sourcing the originals.. you can just use soft wall pipe. i used silicone pipe with bends and joined them using alloy tube

  3. Nice one, thanks Andy! Thin walled silicon tube then...
And does the crankcase breather need the angled neck or is a straight up one ok and is the difference between a large breather box and the smaller one even worth thinking about?
This is the box in question...

  4. I use the angled RS connection, my friend uses a straight connector, no probs with either.
As said don't bother with the correct RS tubing as it's stupid money.
Take it the shallow box means the computer can stay where it is.
My friend has the shallow box, I have the deep one meaning huge problems moving the computer in front of the steering head....

  5. Thanks lads. No problem about the computer as it’s a 998S.

  6. angled neck just helps to steer the pipe away from the exhaust..

  7. wait til you add traction control....:eek::);)

  8. Can a 999 breather be used on the engine, with the internals removed?

  9. Tell me about it..... 20171025_094323.jpg

  15. @andyb, thanks for the info. Back home now and have had a look at the std crankcase breather and how you did it. So, the alloy funnel you made is a mirror image of the top bit you cut off?
Clever, as this way both halves are screwed together either side of the air box and fixed into place.

  16. I feel a text msg coming on...

  17. Read my mind! :)

  18. that way the breather works the other way around lets pressure vent out of the crankcase but keep the airbox pressure in the airbox.....simples
