748 Belt Advice - Bike Left Standing For 3 Months

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Pidge1969, Mar 26, 2018.

  1. hi due to work commitments I’ve not been able to get to my 748 to run it every couple of weeks whilst it is in winter storage. This means the bike has not been started since New Year’s Eve. My question is do you reckon the belts will still be ok or would they have started to get misshapen already, I don’t want to risk buggering the engine up so am after some advice? It’s probably only done 600 miles since last belt change two years ago. Any help would be good thanks.

  2. I just started my Multistrada for the first time in two years - I wouldn't worry about 3 months!

  4. Ha ha, same! Most (many) of the bikes on here, mine included, are kept it what could be termed 'princesse mode'. I can't recall the last time I rode any of mine but when I do, I certainly won't be worrying about the belts and I've kept Ducatis this way for over 20yrs without issue!

  5. Oh ok, I’m that case I’ll get her started this week, I’ve definitely heard stories of belts becoming misshapen if not used though, perhaps they meant over a longer time

  6. Perhaps they didn't know what they were talking about  but next time up spec to California Cycleworks Exact Fit belts :yum

  7. I did get genuine belts put on it last time, you’ve put my mind at ease though so will get her started soon as.

  8. Genuine? You mean Ducati Branded ones ;)

  11. I would say fine, just make sure the belts aren't frozen (not literally, just referring to how cold it's been) and let it tick over for ages before blipping the throttle. I would say if you are really worried you could remove the plugs and take the pressure off them to let them rotate a bit but honestly I wouldn't even consider that unless the bike had been stood 9 months+

  12. Exactly that - stories...

  13. I,m surprised no one has mentioned they're cheaper also, there is a forum discount if you are a subscriber.
