748 748 Cylinder Head No Markings

  1. Hello, looking at a few 748’s and notice some have ‘DOHC’ marked on them and some are blank.

    Is there any pattern to this?

    only asking as someone said on a YouTube video that SP and SPS had no markings on the casting IMG_2756.png

  2. I believe the "no markings" on head refers to 916/996 SP/SPS engine. I could be wrong. Have you checked the engine number? Left hand side near side stand.

  3. No not yet, but in honesty I wouldn’t know what to look for :/

  4. Is it a 748E? I think they maybe don't have any markings on the (visible through the fairing) exhaust valve side.

  6. 748e came out around then, it was a 'budget' version with a slightly lower spec; no adjustable steering angle, screws rather than Dzus fasteners, 'lowered' exhaust valve heads (from S4/ST4) and a few other cost saving measures. Fairly sure they were all Biposto (BP) models.

  7. I can’t remember for sure, but I think it was an age/year thing. Possibly when the size of the exhaust valve cover changed? I’ve got a 996 head with no markings…..

  8. That makes sense, thanks for the info, it doesn’t have the dzus fasteners
    Can you retro fit the dzus fasteners if it doesn’t have them?

  10. Probably the same amount of money telling the foundry not to bother with markings when it was cast.
