Hey everyone, apologies for asking, I know the answers are here in the forum, yet I cannot seem to get the serach function working for me. Just keep getting “error” hence asking you fine people. I’m back with Ducati, having had a couple before, but this time I’ve opted for a cracking 748B 1998 model. The previous owner spent a fortune doing the paintwork yet looking at some posts and pictures, I see quite a few with Ducati down each side of the top of the tank which mines doesn’t have. Nor did they put the 748 numbers on the fairings. I am wanting to rectify these and put the correct ones on, hence can anyone give me a steer as to which colour, size etc. I did the usual eBay search, which has given me more options than an all you can eat buffet, and I’m confused… Any advice welcomed thanks. Hi, 1998 was a change over year. Ducati was bought by an American company but when the deal all went through they found out the Ducati font was trademarked. You’ve bought the company but you didn’t buy the logos!! Hence 1998 is the only year no tank decals and ‘DUCATI’ only, by itself on top of the mid fairing. The font looks straight out of Microsoft word. Same livery for all engine sizes. So in short, correct decal livery for your model.
That’s great, thanks for advising about this, so basically to keep it original, leave it alone then. That’s saved some time and effort thanks.
Texas Pacific group bought the major share holdings circa 1998. Cagiva sold theirs hence logo change.
Because I am a detail oriented person : the 748 had 4 different styles of graphics over the years. 1995 - 1997: The first was the big slanted decal like the 916 on the lower part of the side fairings. Also the Ducati on the tank and front fairing was the older style font. Tail had the Campione graphics 1998 : as yours. Change of font. Nothing on the tank. Just Ducati on side fairings. Ducati 748 on tail. I believe the logo disappears from above the left headlight here. 1999 - 2001 Ducati returns to the tank (new font). Fairings have the fat 748 number after Desmoquattro. Can't recall what's on the tail. I think Ducati 748. 2002; new fairings that match the 998 with different venting (slab sided). Same Ducati on the tank. Thinner fonts on the side fairing for the 748 and thicker Ducati that match 998 style. Tail has Ducati Superbike. Black decal on yellow bikes, silver on the red bikes except the 748R that was black on the all.
