  2. Hi Cornish Duke, some time ago i had a 748, i used suzuki GS650/850 wet plates in my clutch! they worked perfect the clutch was quieter, smoother, and lasted well over 4k miles including a track day in France the best thing about them was they only cost £38 for the set! which came from ebay, this was about 3 years ago so may be more. sorry i have not got any plates or hub left i sold all the spares with the 748 earlier this year, to Timemachine ducati breakers in Chelmsford 07796774598 try him he is very reasonable with pricing. Good Luck Graham

  3. Sounds like a bloody good tip if it does work...:upyeah:

  4. You can get Ducati specific plates for not much more and they should last longer in the dry clutch setup. There are several sellers in Italy selling them for around £50 a set - look on Italian ebay.

  5. i got an old clutch hub in the garage, only got 5 turrets on it, i used to use it on my S4 and put 4 springs in instead of 6, much lighter

got old springs kicking about as well somewhere

    pm me if your interested

  6. I have a complete clutch off my 996.
The plates were only on the bike for 2000 miles but the tangs are very worn so the clutch will rattle a lot.
    Never slipped tough.

If you still need sorting, send me a PM

  7. I will second this - Steve B has a set of alloy GS clutch friction plates in his shed, they are identical to Duke plates??! Would be a lot lighter and quieter than steel Duke ones? Cheap as chips on ebay too...

  8. you inbox is full!! i can't pm you.

  9. Cheers I've emptied it now, carry on.

  10. Update...

Bought a complete GS650 clutch basket, centre, bearings, nuts, washers & both friction & plain plates on eBay.

    £15.

Here is a Duke friction plate on top of the Suzook plate? Perfect match! Apart from the weight and the tab damage on the Doocat plate...

The plain plate is the same size - but has a different number of teeth? Plain plates last for eternity anyhoo...

Will list the Suzook basket, centre & plain plates on eBay later, probably sell them separate for more than what I bought the lot for?

Looks like being dry, but cold the rest of the week? I have wiped the eight friction plates clean - will see if I can bolt them in later this week? Should be good! I need some alloy plates to stop my alloy basket being chewed, this could be a cheap solution...

  11. You sir are a pie 'n' ear...!

    Keep us posted :upyeah:

  12.

What impressed me most was the almost complete lack of damage to the Suzook clutch drum???! An oil bath has its advantages, if only to stop your bike sounding like it is low on oil...

I spoke with Steve B earlier re: a wet clutch conversion?

All you would need would be oil-compatible plates(as above), a closed clutch cover (Meh  ) & two holes drilled in the cover top & bottom with a nut welded on the back of each so a bolt & washer arrangement could be fitted for filling & draining, a fill hole at the top and at the bottom a drain hole/level mark, similar to filling up a car gearbox?

The bike would be tipped over to completely drain the oil if the plates needed to be checked, although this isn't often with a wet clutch?

Not much oil would be needed for the basket to sit in and splash-lube the plates, keep them lubed & stop everything from eating itself?

    Hmmm...

  13. Update - all fitted! Eight friction plates in the Suzuki pack, seven on my Doocat pack so I even managed to swap the quietening plate right at the back of the drum for one of the alloy Suzook ones?

I didnt degrease the old friction plates as such, thinking "wet clutch" plates would be happier wet, this would also mean longer life. I wiped the excess oil off and slotted them in replacing the old steel Ducati Friction plates with the Suzook ones. First ride? Amazingly smooth and controlled takeup on the clutch, felt like an IL4 & not the snatchy lumpy noisy mess that was there before...

A blap around revealed some slippage under power, nothing excessive - probably down to me only running four springs (no probs with the old plates) and the clutch itself being a "new" fit, may have to be run in, like brake pads etc? The Suzuki basket is a six-spring affair so I refitted the other two spring assemblies when I got home & went back out today for another ride round.

Heavier lever feel - but now very little or no slippage? The same smooooooooooth takeup, made a trip around town quite pleasant! Will see if I can get out again tomorrow for a longer trip & see if it beds in more. I still have a standard slave so that could be swapped for a lighter lever feel?

All in all quite impressed! The clutch isnt entirely silent but a LOT quieter than before? Hardly audible unless you listen for it.
