748 Flywheel identification

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Red998, Feb 25, 2014.

  1. I am having a cleanup at the moment as I have parts everywhere! and I came across some flywheels, can someone tell what the flywheel pictured is from? single or 3 phase.

I suspect it's an early flywheel single phase but as I have it mixed in with another couple I cannot remember which is which.

    Can someone confirm my thoughts.

  2. Thats a rotor not a flywheel.

  3. The reason I ask is that I also discovered this, a Nichols "flywheel" which is how they describe it in their catalogue and it seems to be for an early 748 as well. I just wanted to confirm if that is correct as they seem to be identical (whatever they are)

I thought the rotor on an early 748 was on the end of the crank and is quite small, please see below.

This is what I thought the rotor was for an early model.

  4. Yes that is a single-phase flywheel, identical to the one from a 916.

  5. Thanks for the information, I thought it was. Looks like I have "discovered" a Nichols lightened flywheel for my SPS that I didn't realise I had!

    Thanks again.
