Hi - took my 748 out for a ride yesterday and noticed that when I was stopped at the traffic lights or just riding very slow in traffic the temp went up to 100c on the gauge. I have not had the bike that long and have not had the chance to ride her much so am not sure if this is normal or not? Usually when the bike is moving it stays at around 80c. The bike did not seem to run poorly at 100c I just started worrying a bit that is was going to keep rising; luckily the traffic started moving reasonably quickly so the temp dropped down. Can anyone help me with this, and apologies for my ignorance being a relatively new owner. Cheers Mark
run it up to temp when stationary and check that the cooling fans kick in. about 103c ? maybe check their not seized or tight to turn first.
Cheers for the info Birdie, how hot do they get up to in traffic then as I was worried it was going to hit the 120c and I'd overheat and break down. Mark
The fan should cut in at about 95 deg and off around 87 deg the 748 only has one fan unlike most other Ducati which have two. Mine regularly used to go over 100 deg until I fitted a different fan switch which cuts the fan on at 87 deg and of at 82. It still rises in town traffic even with the fan on. Steve
I did come across an uprated fan for these bikes, when I was worried about the same thing with my 999. If it stays at 100 or so, no problem though. The combination of pressurised system and coolant mix means it shouldn't boil till getting on for 130c
mine gets to bout 110 in stationary traffic and although it has done so for the 5 or so years ive had it on the rd with no probs i still worry! the fan does kick in around 95 but the temp still goes up till i start moving. its disconcerting but not a prob this far
