748 748 Service Day! Big Thanks!

  1. had my 748 sps serviced today at Cornerspeed for the first time, and think it deserves a thank you and a mention of the great service received, there is far too much whinging and moaning on the net, its a pleasure to be able to praise the good guys.

    my bike has had a rocker replaced at the last big service, and it was time for another full check today with new belts, valve clearances etc. Neil did a cracking job, looked after the bike, and showed me step by step as i was keen (prob annoying lol) to see how the belts and valve clearances are done.

    Neil found an opening rocker with fairly obvious wear, and had one in stock, swapped it out without any issues or worry.

    the bike throttles were set up and mixture tweaked, and it was noticeably better on the ride back, even though it had felt ok previously, i can feel the pick up is smoother now.

    part and parcel of looking after a ducati well, and i've been shown a rocker that probably will need attention at the next service but was fine for now acording to Neil. even full ducati service history at the right times hasnt prevented the rocker flaking, thankfully caught before any cam lobe damage and proof of the need for regular expert servicing.

    my bike and i were treat with respect by someone with obvious attention to detail. i'm not affiliated with them in anyway and have never used them before, this is my first ducati, but its going back there next time!
    slightly lighter of wallet due to the unplanned rocker, but now enjoying the bike without worrying!

  2. the offending opening rocker!

  3. Fairly typical wear unfortunately but worth keeping the rocker and having it plated ready for when the next one goes. It's cheaper normally to have a number done at the same time so if you have any more, or you can get a few worn out ones you can save cash over having a new stock rocker put in.

    Newman cams are very good for this sort of work.

  4. yes was thinking of doing so and having it ready for next year if i do need another. do the refaced ones have a perfect profile though compared to o.e?

  5. Not sure if they're exactly the same? so it might be better to replace all of them rather than just the odd one.

    I had all mine done after 9 failures and the new ones have been fine since - they can't flake as there's no chrome left to flake.

    Pic shows OEM and Newman side-by-side (Newman are the wider ones on the right for each type);

  6. Wots the cost of having them replated an ground?

  7. IIRC it cost me around £35 each but this was a few years ago. Still much cheaper than new Ducati parts.

  8. Thats a fair price, new Ducati ones must be over £100,i would think they would last longer aswell, cheers.

  9. newman ones much wider, how come? got to add weight to valvetrain?

  10. As I remember Newman charged £40 each for the odd one or two but if you had a set done then it was £35 each. They used to build them with stellite and then grind them to shape and size. That was quite a few years back so no doubt things have moved on a bit.
