748 Side stand bolt - thread size and helicoil

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by jammy_basturd, Feb 18, 2013.

  1. Went out this weekend, got home, went to put the side stand down and was having a little difficulty. Looked down and it was clinging on with just one mounting bolt. Proved to be a bit of a quandary as no one else was home and the paddock stand was in a locked garage!

The front screw has parted ways with the bike, and the thread is buggered. Does anyone know what thread size it is? I believe it's an M7 Allen head screw?

Also, has anyone helicoiled one of these before? If so, do you know which helicoil to get and where from?

    Thanks!

  2. yes, often rears its head this one. The bolt size is M10 x 1.5 and the best route is to use a 'Recoil' kit - the modern equivalent of Helicoil and the kit Part number is 35100.

  3. can it be drilled 10.25mm for a M12 bolt?...
