Just got hold of a 748 SP engine from Cranker V2 and had an exhaust question. Currently have a set of open 45mm Termignonis. Is it worth changing to a 50mm/45mm half system? Also saw this 54mm/45mm (didn't know they made those) set on ebay: ducati 748 916 996 998 54mm carbon termignoni exhaust half system | eBay Is that worth considering? Thanks
When new, the 748sp came with 45mm cans fitted as standard and was supplied with a 45mm to 50mm link pipe and 50mm race cans, well mine was anyway. Yes there is a difference and yes it is noticeable. Would I fit a 50mm half system, absolutely if I could get hold of a 45mm to 50mm link pipe. Would I fit a 54mm half system. probably not without fitting bigger intakes and probably bigger throttle bodies and a rolling road remap. Can your disposable income support £1500 ? If it can and your 748 is your baby, absolutely. Andy
I think that's answered that nicely. I'll track down a 50mm/45mm link pipe first then worry about the cans. As I'll just be swapping the engine over on my 748 I guess the ECU chip will need to be changed. Any suggestions?
Mine was fitted with a multimap chip which I believe is no longer supported but there is always the fallback of your choice of aftermarket piggy back programmable systems. Link pipes are like rocking horse poo but out there, you just need patience. You should be able to run the 45mm system until you can find a link pipe. I have a lot of respect for Phil, the workshop manager at Moto Rapido, who knows his stuff so if you get stuck, give him a ring. Good luck. Andy
I think the SP must have had a 45/45mm system originally because my SPS came with 45mm Termi's as a bolt on half system and was supplied as new with that and the upgraded chip along with the standard cans. I think, and I may be wrong, the 748R had a 45/50mm system. Link pipes do turn up on eBay from time to time but they always seem to go for a premium.
