Don't think so, the 748R had the 'Kyalami' frame which was made to run a larger airbox on race bikes - initially for Kyalami in South Africa which is at high altitude so 'thinner' air, for which a larger airbox was intended to help gain some power. IIRC the 748R was the only production (Homologation?) bike to use this larger airbox? and to fit it required the rear frame crossmember to be lowered. The lowered frame (or variant of it) was then used in 998 models as the Testastretta engine needed it due to the head design. EVR in Italy http://www.edovignaracing.com/en/ make a large airbox that will fit 748 but it is expensive, makes servicing more complex and is unlikely to give any noticeable power increase.
As above, I believe it can be done with frame modifications but it is quite a lot of work. I seem to remember in the past that one forum member on here did go to the trouble of doing it and posted photos of what was involved.
When people fit 1098/1198 engines into 916 frames they prefer the 998 or 748R frames for the lowered cross-member (though not a huge job to modify an old frame), also the 748R airbox as the top half at least can be used to fabricate something to fit the newer engine better.
