748r Clutch plates

  1. My my02 748r is in need of a new clutch plate set (started to struggle whilst pulling off) so i.m on the look for a new set, do people install standard Ducati eom parts or are there any after markets makes that work better?

Seen an oem kit on eBay from moto rapido for £170 but when I popped into Riders Cardiff the bloke on parts couldn't find a part number for the full kit and buying fibres & steels individually quoted £251!!

if anyone recommends any other kits please advice?

    thanks

  2. Cheers Nelson,

will search for the 748r ones

    thanks

  3. So I've just read on the project page about someone putting a Ali 1098 basket on their 998 and using GS650 plates (which I assume are cheaper than Ducati 1's?) anyone know if this set up will work with the OEM slipper clutch in my 748R?

    thanks

  4. I believe all the baskets are interchangeable, be careful with the GS plates, some have had success with them, others not.

  5. There's a whole thread about this I believe with mixed results. I am not sure what the consensus is now as I haven't kept up with it but some found that they didn't work, it's related to the material of the plates as they were meant to be run in oil.

  6. Thanks for the replies Red & Nelson,

ive just ordered a set of Ducati OEM clutch plates (fibres & steels) £157 inc VAT from Riders Cardiff

  7. HELP- Just trying to fit the ducati clutch kit in my 748r

    Anyone kno correct order??

    There's 7 fibres & 8 steel

Exploded diagram shows 2 steels in 1st then alternate fibre/steel and finish with a steel? But with 8 & 7 this doesn't work out??

  8. is it a slipper clutch.......(albeit the std one)

  9. Yeah standard slipping

  10. Slipper even

  11. and what order were the plates in that you took out......

  12. Fibre in 1st and 2 steels last??

  13. Ok a slipper does set up the stack differently to a std non slipper. As you may be able to see and worth a check whilst you have it apart the centre hub will rise and fall against a centre spring......this does this on ramps that need cleaning and lubing with the appropriate high temp grease.

you can also check that the spring is in good working order

once this is done then you can rebuild the the plate stack.

start with a friction as if you start with a steel then the first time the slipper slips the first steel will drop behind the centre hub.

so fibre steel fibre steel etc until you get them all in then measure the height with a vernier from the centre hub down to the final plate this want to be 4 to 5 mm nearer 4 is better..........( there is a picture of this if you search the site to clarify.)

this will give you the best shot of it working .....hth

  14. I've gone wit 1 steel 1st as there appears to be a steel plate screwed in with Allen bolts tha isn't shown on exploded diagram and therefore I've got a steel in 1st and 1 in last before the pressure plate?

Will take bike for spin sat and see how she goes??

  15. ffs i dont know why i bother.

    Go for it....hey ho.

  16. No need to get shirty!

The exploded diagram clearly shows steel 1st?

  17. moved to the not listening section.

  18. Have to say it does show a steel plate first. Maybe because its not a very sophisticated clutch compared to aftermarket ones
