Just changed my front tyre to a 70 from the original 60, but I've noticed it's rubbing on the mudguard. As its a none standard carbon number I filed the mounting holes in the guard lower to lift the guard up. Which I thought would have been sufficient to solve the problem, however it's still rubbing slightly and it looks like its because the brake pipe is pushing the back of the guard down on to the tyre? Has anybody else had this problem? And did u solve it by putting a longer hose on the brakes from the T splitter, or will the OEM mud guard be stiffer than the carbon one I have fitted and thus hold its own against the brake pipe? Thanks Rich
I recall the 748R front wheel was different to the standard 748 wheels I think it may be the offset of the disks rather than anything else. But being a bigger profile and the speedo drive being on the front wheel it will also not display the correct speed now. Not sure how to fix the issue other than swap the lines, if it was me and that was my choice I'd opt for single lines to each caliper rather than a split as is standard
I run a 70 profile front on my 748 (much better than the 60 profile standard IMO) and there is plenty of clearance with the standard mudguard. Can you fabricate some small ally brackets to raise the mudguard another 10mm? I wouldn't mess around with the brake lines personally though for such a thing
I agree with Jon......I'd run single lines to each caliper but that might be the racer in he and I cos thats what we do......the R had 15mm offset discs instead of the std bikes' 10mm....and yes, the 70 is much better than the 60 imho.....
It will depend on the tyre fitted and it's profile. I have a '70' Dunlop GP211 on my 748BP and that occasionally rubs on the ridge in the front mudguard. It's usually as a result of picking up loose stones on a warm tyre. Must confess i have not done anything major to correct it as it's not a continuous problem.
