749 monoposto sub frame repair

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by pegboy, Jun 5, 2013.

  1. The rear subframe is cracked on one side and completely broken on the other. I have heard that to repair is to insert a smaller tube on the inside and reweld as this will give it more strength. What is the sub frame made of and what type of welder should be used, Mig, tig etc?

  2. Ducati replaced mine. Contact a dealer and they should sort it out for you

  3. The bike is a 2003?? Need it for next Tuesday track day

  4. The risk of a sleeve is that you create a stress riser which will crack again.

  5. So is mine and they still replaced as it is a known fault. Get a quick repair done to do the trackday then get it replaced

  6. Ok great thanks

  7. Peg, I have a spare you can borrow, but I'd need it back. In SW London.

thank for the offer, very kind of you.

I have a welder around the corner from me, so now going to try and repair it and if not I'll give you a shout.

Would you know what the sub frame is made from, is it Aluminum?

  9. no problem. If you get stuck, let me know. Yes, the standard one is ally.

  10. Sorry guys its Biposto not Mono?

  11. What rubbish.

The risk of no insert is it will crack again after welding anyway as it is poorly designed. The risk still exists if you buy a new one, design is still wrong.

I needs welding with tig (by someone who knows what they are doing) and a triangular brace adding externally. That's the only way to fix it properly.
