749 Power Commander 3, any tips are they worth the doe?

  1. Just picked up a Power Commander 3 for my 03 749 BP..

I,ve recently added 54mm termi system, hoping this will compliment it
Any pointers of fitting it & where i can get a decent map to download. When I fit it what will it actually do....

  2. A pc3 or an upgraded ECU is essential.

In terms of fitting it it is best to cable tie it to one of the frame tubes rather than velcro it to the battery box as it will clash with the fairing.

For maps you want to visit the power commander site and navigate to the downloads section where you download all the maps available and select which one is relevant when uploading to the pc3 unit.

  3. Thanks, will check it out once it arrives... Any pointers of what type of maps I should be looking for & what will it actually do to my bike?

  4. Sticking a map on it from the power commander site is pretty useless. Every motor is different and requires different fuelling. The PCIII should be used as the means of getting a better fuel map by dialling the fueling in on Dyno runs. A custom map is the way to go. Each cylinder mapped individually..........make sure that is done.

  5. Whata that cost then..

& what improvements wound one get.. you say fueling.. whats that mean in basic terms... I just want to make sure I've brought it for a performance increase other wise I guess it was a waste of money...

  6. Getting the correct air fuel ration ensures your motor is running efficiently and making the best power possible with your set up. A custom map would be around 200-250 quid. So yes, in combination with the system you should see a decent improvement in rwbhp, torque and drivability.

  7. Just looking @ the PC website..

    just read this extract..

Is it a fair comment.. for normal road ridding...
How do I get 100% optimization?

First ask yourself is it necessary?

You installed the PC, you noticed a positive improvement and the most annoying problems like overheating, surging or pinging have been eliminated. In this state you are probably 90% optimized. If you desire 100% optimization or you require a custom map for a special application, you must select a dealer that has the proper equipment and training to accomplish this for a reasonable cost and without damage to your motorcycle.

  8. Its a waste of money buying the exhaust system if you dont get the fuelling set up correctly....................Where abouts are you? Folks on here will recommend a good dyno centre in your area. One that knows ducatis too.

  9. I'm in Bedford if anyone can recommend one that would be great... Already paid a small fortune on the PC3, just want to be sure that I NEED a dyno setup for road riding... didn't budget spending another 250 to be honest

  10. had a power commander on my bike for about 5 years, great improvemnet over standard

had loads of grief over the last 18 months with the fuelling and it appears that the power commander is bolloxed and it needs another

will try another, but if new one gives problems I'm going to bike the bullet and convert bike to carbs, sometimes new technology is more trouble than it is worth

  11. SPR in Ruddington about and hour north of you

  12. In my opinion the powercommander is not worth it. The unit is only as good as the dyno operator that made the map. The download maps or shared intermaps will not work.

Bikes with marelli ecu's even identical have the worse tendency not to swap.

Ecu remapping is the way to go because there is no limit to what can be done and there is no need to have anything extra connected to the bike.

  13. Hi Chris

Whats the approx cost to remap a 16m ecu ?

    Steve

  14. for the money your will spend on a Powercommander and dyno time i would reccomend the ecu remap route as its not much more and the results are often better and more can be adjusted (eg fuelling, ignition, torque limiters, rev limit immobiliser etc)and in more detail . the power commmander is quite a crude and simple device really

bsd remapped my monster s2r1000 and did an amazing job. £400 quid well spent , the throttle consistancy alone transformed the control of the bike. AFAIK BSD in peterborough and CJS in bristol are the only ppl i have consistanty been reccomended who can do ecu remaps

dave wood is a great tuner for pcIII pc5 etc, but dont think he does ecu remaps (although its been a couple of years sice i have been there)
