Hi, Looks like i need to replace my rear brake disc. Just a question regarding the thickness. The OEM Brembo is 5mm thick and I have seen a Galfer wavy disc (Sucker for the look of them) but is states its 4mm. The manual states replace if below 4.5mm. So is a 4mm not suitable? Also if it states for track use only on the disc would this fail an MOT? Cheers, Dave.
The OEM disc is designed to be 5mm thick, the Galfer 4mm. It should have a minimum thickness stamped on it, possibly 3.5mm. If it states "Track use only" then yes, technically it should fail.
Thanks for the responses. The standard cost is around £97, but found the Galfer on offer reduced to £59.99 from £107. That's what caught my attention. Just thought that the minimum wear thickness of 4.5mm on the OEM is higher than the new thickness of the Galfer. Just don't want any nasty issues like the pads not contacting fully or the like. I must say that I have never seen discs marked Track use only, and wondered if the tester would even check, unlike an exhaust system.
I have a Galfer Wave on my 749. It works just fine - in other words it ticks the box that requires a brake system on the rear as I never use it anyway. Has passed MOT's without any problem.
I have a Galfer on mine. A few years ago the MOT tester noticed "race use only" and said he should fail it but didn't. Got home got the dremel out and ground it off. No problems since.
