749 running on one cylinder

  1. All,

I have written a couple of threads on my Ducati won't start and now I have tracked down the problem to the Fuel system.

It appears the vertical cylinder is not firing, but the front one is and the bike will start using the throttle but obviously it only runs on one cylinder. THe Bike has been off the road from last October and the initial fault was the rear cylinder was not sparking. Thanks to Antony at Avanti Race parts I have a new ECU reflashed with the DP program for a 749. Before anyone asks I have fitted new spark plugs and checked both coils are working okay.

The problem looks like the rear fuel injector is blocked and I need some advice if anyone has come across this before. I have not checked the fuel filter, but I know I new one was fitted prior to me buying the bike. The fuel pump primes and makes all the correct noises, but when firing teh bike up with the top of the airbox off then you can see there is no fuel being squirted into the rear cylinder, but you can see the fuel from teh front cylinder.

Anyone got any ideas as this bike has been off the road for 6 months now and Spring is almost here

    Thanks in advance

    Keith

  2. Buy a new injector.

I know that sounds obvious but is there any more to this than that.

  3. Obviously the right answer but you could swap them to see if the opposite is fueling.

  4. what if the ecu is not signalling that injector to work? What if there is a problem with the wiring to that injector? There are other checks that should be done....

  5. Would appreciate an answer to this:

Does fuel injector performance deteriorate over time. Might my injectors on my 2004 749s- 25k miles not be working optimally. Can the additives that are present in modern fuels 'clog up ' injector nozzles and prevent them from working correctly?

  6. I built one of these and cleaned the injectors on my 999. They went from a jet to a mist after cleaning.

  7. Excellent Chrisw, many thanks for that, I'll give that a try.

  8. Thanks Mr R

I thought this might be the case.

The reason I asked was that I have noticed some 'hesitancy' creeping in around 5-6k when accelerating hard, seems o.k throughout the rest of the rev range.
With such fine holes, I can imagine there is the possibility they can get clogged up.

  9. I have some old connectors for the injectors should anyone want to try this.

Here's my version. I used some 1/2" pipe so you don't need to mess with O rings to get it to fit. I cut off the top of the syringe and used it to hold the pipe onto the jar lid. I also put a hole into the syringe to allow air to escape when you fill it. This is sealed with a self tapping screw once full.
