After a stone punctured my oil cooler (causing me to miss the Horsham Italian day parade) I got the 2nd hand replacement come through this week. On disassembly I noticed the guard grill was a tad loose, not at all taught & resting on the rad itself. No wonder it didn't do its job! On removing the busted unit I noticed (& replaced) damaged screws suggesting that this was not the first time the 749 had experienced this problem. I secured the grill better along its top edge with wire threaded through 4 holes & added 3 off 5mm spacers to move the grill forward as far as the fairing would allow. All seems well now!
