750ss Ie Electrical Problems

  1. I have a 2002 750SS ie that I am having electrical problems with following a lay up of about 10 months. I have checked many things but still cannot locate the issue so any help will be gratefully received.

Firstly, with a fully charged battery connected the starter motor will not turn over and the solenoid ‘chatters’ every second. The solenoid has been replaced but this has not cured the problem. Connecting power direct to the starter motor turns the engine over but there is no spark at the plugs. I have continuity checked between the solenoid and starter and that is fine. All the fuses are ok as are the relays.

Second, the output voltage to the crank position sensor is low at 2.6v; I believe it should be about 5v. The readings I am getting at the connectors from the ecu are: p1 1.6v, p2 2.6v and p3 0v. What does each of these pins relate to? Again the continuity for the wiring between the ecu and the crank sensor is ok. I have had the ecu checked out at Carmo electronics twice now and I am told that the ecu has no faults.

After much thinking and diagnosis I am at a loss of what to do next so any help from more learned members will be much appreciated.

  2. Sounds like a major earthing problem. Check the battery earth connections to the frame and engine.
